I love Public Art!

This week I am in Miami, Florida visiting my dearly missed friend, Elise. She moved here a bit over a year and a half ago and is a high school language arts teacher. Nearing the end of my winter break, Miami is my last vacation stop before I return to school. My first night here, Elise and her boyfriend, Lester, drove me around Miami and upon driving, I just happened to see these beauties presiding over the city.

Now, my first thought was, "OH OH!! Huge, bright pink snails!! Love!!" Yes, it was love at first sight for these snails and me and a couple days later, I convinced Elise to drive me down in the daytime so we could get a photoshoot. After a bit of research, I came to find out that these darling giant snails are made of recycled plastic and are part of an art installation by a group entitled Cracking Art Group.
